Health instability (CHESS-AI)

Alarm level explanation: The customer’s health is unstable. If the health has deteriorated in the near future, identify the cause of the change and evaluate whether there are any measures that could be taken to restore the health to an earlier level? High CHESS-AI increases the need for health services and is associated with high mortality.

The CHESS-AI score is designed to identify clients who are at risk of rapid health deterioration.

CHESS-AI estimates the instability of the client’s health based on care notes made about the client, where 0 = No problem 1 = Mild instability 2 = Low instability 3 = Moderate instability 4 = High instability 5 = Very high instability

Evaluation takes into account

  • increase in ADL-AI score during the previous 90 days
  • increase in CPS-AI score during the previous 90 days
  • vomiting
  • limb swelling
  • dehydration
  • breathing difficulties
  • deviations in eating

CHESS-AI score values are usually close to the CHESS scores (see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ 1234853/), but in some cases deviate from them because CHESS-AI is based on the daily care notes made of the customer and interpreted by artificial intelligence.

Warning level explanation: The customer’s health is slightly unstable. If the health has deteriorated in the near past, identify the cause of the change and evaluate whether there are any measures that could be taken to restore the health to an earlier level. The high CHESS-AI value increases the need for health services.
