Urinary tract infection and, in women, vaginal diseases

Diseases and medication
Ensure the client’s medication is not causing incontinence. Certain diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and cerebrovascular disorders can also increase it.
- Depression
Treat depression with medication and other therapies.
- High urine volume
Alcohol and coffee can increase fluid intake. Aim for a urine output of 1–2 litres per day.
- Mobility problems
Would mobility aids help? Could the bed be moved closer to the toilet?
- Constipation
Constipation may put pressure on the bladder and cause incontinence.
